Hi my name is Jonathan and I'm a huge lips fan they've been a big part of shaping my life after I saw them live for the first time and I also have a lips tattoo.
Hi kids, new girl on the block, thirtiesgirl from Loss Angeles, FLips fan for many years. One of the best live gigs I've ever seen was the FLips at the Palladium on the Yoshimi tour. Confetti, streamers, balloons, giant balls, folks in costume... it was great. Highlight of the night was Wayne noticing a guy in a Santa suit stage right, and a guy dressed as Jesus stage left. Quoth Mr. Coyne, "Look at this, I'm halfway between Jesus and Santa!" I've still yet to see him descend in a spaceball, but will hopefully one day have the chance. It must be said that I have a HUGE crush on Wayne and think he is the uber-mensch of all uber-mensches. If he weren't a happily married guy... perish the thought. I'm just glad to find a Livejournal community dedicated to the man and his music. Cool beans! Let's keep the party flowin'.
There are three - THREE - new Lips songs out there right now.
"I Was Zapped By the Lucky Super Rainbow" from the Good Luck Chuck soundtrack. It is superhappy-sounding and fun.
Then there are "Tale of the Horny Frog" and "Maybe I'm Not the One" from the Heartbreak Kid soundtrack. I have so far not gotten a chance to hear either of these but hopefully any interested people here will be able to do so.
On myspace.. or hellsomething something.com you can get a postcard holiday card from the Flaming Lips. Also, Flaming Lips with Gnarls Barkley, epic way to end the year. Tickets on sale now for 55 bucks. I'll be there for sure.
I have been considering getting the pink robot tattooed somewhere on my body. It will be my first tattoo. Besides the fact that I am a huge Lips fan, the robot symbolizes other things to me. I am just looking for suggestions on where to place it. It may be too big to put on my hip. And I dont want one on my shoulder...any ideas? Thanks:)
I'm just going to do a highlight list, b/c I'm far too braindead right now to write much.
-The bubble was awesome. Hell, the whole concert was awesome. I've never been so pumped up in my life. -Guitar player from Sonic Youth stepped out into the crowd with his guitar (and nearly onto me) and proceeded to hand it over the heads of the crowd for them to wail on a bit - including scratching someone's camera behind me with it. -Wayne Coyne saw my new ( tattoo ) and gave me the thumbs up. -Pre-concert, a girl came up with a Long John Silvers paper pirate hat and gave it to me, I, in turn, got Wayne's attention pre-show and handed it to him. He wore it while helping set up. -Magic Numbers did a great job of getting a somewhat laid back crowd pretty pumped up. -Lots of streamers, flashing lights, Santa Clauses (No, not "clause" as in the crappy Tim Allen movie) and aliens. -I waited around after show with a couple friends to try to catch Wayne - we finally gave up after seeing him back stage, trying to get there, and being blocked. Then, as we drove away, another friend saw him standing on the curb but we were in the flow of traffic and couldn't stop. DAMNIT!
I have many pictures, I'll post the best and perhaps a link to a photobucket with 'em all later on.
Much appreciated for the info on the shirt. I'll probably get one since the price seems reasonable (thank goodness the Canadian dollar is up high these days)
Anyways not to be a whore for self-promotion but if anyone is interested I posted a couple of Lips covers (and Sonic Youth) on my mp3 blog, Sweet Static. They are...
Flaming Lips w/Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney)-"War Pigs" from NYE show at MSG (12/31, 2004) Flaming Lips-"After The Goldrush" from The Bridge: A tribute to Neil Young (1989)
Sonic Youth-"Computer Age" from The Bridge: A tribute to Neil Young (1989) Sonic Youth-"Superstar" from If I Were A Carpenter (1994)
Just thought I'd share in case anyone here was interested.
I'm going to the Lips/Youth show in Detroit this weekend and was wondering if anyone knew how much shirts were going for? Trying to figure out if I want one or not.
Today will be the 3rd performance I will experience of the Flaming Lips in the last 4 days. Yesterday, the group filmed for their live DvD from the Hollywood Bowl 5.1. Wayne looked way over-worked and nervous to make it amazing. There were almost naked women with body glitter and green wigs cruising. Men in eyeball masks and plenty of ongoing confetti blasting. Everyone had glowsticks (necklaces and thousands of them) and it lit up the audience. After awhile, Wayne asked everyone to throw the necklaces at him. Goodness... it looked like colorful wasps attacking going down the bowl. Brad was there interviewing people all over. I ran everywhere barefooted with glass cutting up my feet as I danced. I rushed the stage..as far as I could go and just went nuts with rich Hollywood folks watching me and calling me Blueberry ( I had a blue wig). After their encore of War Pigs ( Wayne even put on some blood!), I stood on the chairs and yelled.. there was a camera on me for about 25minutes because the show was too epic to be done so fast ( 10:20pm) so the insanity in me had to continue to be released. I got interviewed and talked forever. How can I not as I did just sneak backstage in a daze of excitement.
Does anyone have any pictures of Wayne around the Transmissions... era, in which he's wearing the "I *heart* Michelle" button that he wore constantly at that time? He wore it in the Turn It On video.
Yes, I know that Google is my friend. I've been trying to find screencaps of the video with no luck, and every picture site I've seen tonight only seems to have pictures from Zaireeka onward.
Check the homepage for new dates! I haven't gotten a news email in a long while, and have been really busy, so I didn't even NOTICE that The Lips are playing Atlanta AGAIN September 13, at The Tabernacle. A friend contacted me on MySpace about it. And then, it didn't even dawn on me that tickets would go on sale as early as yesterday...luckily, a friend picked up one for me "just in case". I don't know if it has already sold out, but it will. I'm just so lucky that I have friends that look out for me, otherwise, I would be very upset if I had learned too late.
Twice in one year! I guess I'm not going to Cleveland in August, after all.
